Did you know by default, international long distance calling is disabled. The owner or group administrator of the business/organization can request to have the feature enabled, either for individual users or for the whole group. Standard Shaw long distance rates apply.

How to set up authorization code for long distance calling

Authorization codes are used to authenticate a user before completing both long distance and local calling. Typically, a group will restrict long distance (billable) calling only, allowing local and toll-free calls to proceed without authorization. The group administrator of your business can set up an authorization code for either the entire group or individual users.

The group administrator of your business can set up an authorization code for either the entire group or individual users.

  1. Log in to smartvoice.shawbusiness.ca with group administrator credentials.
  2. Navigate to Group Services > Calling Plans.

  1. Under the Calling Plans menu, select Authorization Code.
  2. Set Number of Digits to select how long the authorization code(s) will be.
  3. Select the checkbox: Allow Local and Toll-Free Calls without Account/Authorization Code.
  4. Search for users:
    • Enter a name and then press Search.
    • Leave the name field empty and press Search to load all users into a group.
  5. Add groups/individuals from the Non-Restricted to Restricted Users boxes.
  6. Click Save.

  1. Specify the Code. Ensure that only numeric values are used, and that the length must equal the value entered in Step 4.
  2. Specify the Description to help reference what the code will be used for (e.g., sales department).
  3. Click Add.

Current codes are displayed with their descriptions. You can also delete existing codes.


Adding multiple Codes

To add multiple codes, repeat steps 8-10 for each additional code. Multiple codes can also be added in bulk by importing a .csv file in the following format:
