Learn how to transfer calls with your Rogers Business Advantage Voice (formerly SmartVoice) service using consultative transfer, blind transfer, and transferring calls directly to voicemail.
Consultative transfers
Also known as a “warm transfer”, a consultative transfer means that you will stay on the line until the transferred call is answered, to personally tell the recipient who is on the call.
On Polycom phones:
- Press the Transfer button on the phone. The call will be placed on hold.
- Enter the phone number or extension of the party who will receive the transferred call.
- Introduce the two parties.
- Hang up your receiver to leave the call. The other two parties will remain connected.
On Cisco phones:
- Press the Consultative Transfer softkey.
- Press the Transfer softkey. The call will be placed on hold.
- Enter the phone number or extension of the party who will receive the transferred call.
- Introduce the two parties.
- To complete the transfer, press the Transfer softkey. Or, you can cancel the transfer by pressing the End Call softkey, then pressing the Resume softkey to return to the original call.
Blind transfers
As soon as you press the line to transfer the call, it will be disconnected and transferred to the intended recipient. This can also be referred to as a cold transfer. While engaged in a call to be transferred:
On Polycom phones:
- Press the Transfer button on the phone. The initial call will be held.
- Change the transfer type by pressing the Blind button.
- Select the shared call, busy lamp field, or speed dial line you wish to transfer the call to.
- Hang up your handset to drop out of the call and connect the other two parties.
On Cisco phones:
- Press the Blind Transfer softkey.
- Enter the extension or destination number to directly transfer the call
- Hang up the phone
Transfer calls to voicemail
You can send an incoming call directly to someone's voicemail, without the recipient's phone ringing. While you are on the call:
- Press the Transfer button on the phone to place the call on hold.
- Press 55 (star, five, five, star).
- Enter the extension of the party whose voicemail will receive the transferred call.
The caller will hear the recipient's voicemail greeting and will be able to leave a message.
